One of my favorite activities is getting together with friends, and nothing is better than sharing laughter with buddies. It's no surprise that studies show that the number one predictor of well-being is social connections.
Today I had lunch with the group I call my Yoga Peeps, which includes Heather, my yoga instructor, and two ladies I met in her class several years ago, Debbie and Susan. Susan's husband, Jim, had also been in Heather's class and when he passed away unexpectedly, the three of us gathered around Susan, offering her friendship, support, companionship, and anything else we could manage to provide her while sharing in her grief. We have been participating in these lunch dates ever since, keeping each other updated on all the happenings in our lives.
I don't remember what sparked this memory, but I said, "Oh, like that time we got high at the Sedona Yoga Festival?" This prompted howls of laughter. In March of 2024 Heather and I attended the Sedona Yoga Festival. One of the final classes we attended was a very woo-woo gathering, lead by a sort of witchy shaman woman who, at the end of class, asked if anyone would like to try her homemade "tincture." To which, Heather and I said, "Sure! Why not?” Because after all, when in Sedona. . .
All I remember is that we spent the rest of that evening in our hotel room giggling and laughing hysterically, occasionally asking each other, "Do you feel anything? Is it working? Are we high?" Hmmm, I wonder.
As we were leaving the restaurant, Heather and I made a pit stop in the restroom and continued laughing about our Sedona escapades. While in the restroom I said, "I can't believe I didn't know what we actually took. I thought it was just weed." Just then, I heard a woman in the other stall say, "I'm so sorry. I don't mean to eavesdrop, but your conversation is so funny." We then explained that we were not currently high, but that this happened a couple of years ago at the Sedona Yoga Festival. She laughed and said, "Oh, that makes sense! Nice meeting you. Have a great day!" She continued laughing as she exited the restroom.
"See?" I told Heather. "We made her day!"
