"We need artists to reflect our humanity and goodness back to us, especially during difficult times. . . While science may be the thing that gets us out of a difficult situation, art will be what helps us through the situation because art is to the community what thoughts are to the individual. Art provides the community a forum where we reflect on who we are, where we hope to go, our strengths, our failures. Through art as our mirror, we decide what our values are and then we can act on them. That is the role of art. Entertainment? That is just a byproduct."

"Storytelling, in any form, is what we all need right now. Across time and culture, people love making up stories, acting them out, telling them, and retelling them in new ways. It's about seeing ourselves reflected back to us. We just want to be told we're okay, that it's alright, and to be shown maybe a different way, a better way. Isn't that what art should do? Shouldn't it push us forward? . . . Through stories, we feel seen."

"The world can be so sad, and you can be so shattered by life, but it can also be unbelievably beautiful. Art, in many ways, is how we transcend our pain. It's what we do to try to make sense of this world. We all have an instinct to make something, express ourselves, and create amid suffering, pain, and oppression. The apposition between the grief of the world and the beauty of the world can be ecstatically agonizing."
