I KNOW MY BODY

Last night I woke up around 3am in terrible pain. “Oh no,” I thought. “I think I have an infection.” Ugggh. The horrible discomfort kept me awake until I finally took something for the pain and eventually fell back to sleep around 5am and didn’t wake up until almost 10:00. Whoa.
I felt so fatigued and lousy that I didn’t dare go out for my usual morning run as much as it pained me not to. But I had to listen to my body.
I called Kaiser first thing, and to my great delight they picked up fairly quickly without making me wait on hold forever. The advice nurse was able to diagnose me and request a prescription for antibiotics without my having to go in for an appointment, saving me a whole hell of a lot of time and headache.
Being a dancer, I am greatly in tune with my body and so I think I caught the infection early enough to nip it in the bud. Consequently, I already feel so much better and I was able to make it to the My Fair Lady rehearsal tonight, which was way fun and it would have been a bummer to miss.
A couple of years ago my friend, who also happens to be my yoga instructor, gave me this framed print.

It’s hilarious and very true. Sometimes it takes some unforeseen event to get me to slow down and take it easy. If I'm being honest, I probably shouldn't run every single morning, but rather, I should alternate one run day with one rest day. But that’s really difficult for this high achieving, type A personality. And I'm pretty sure I'm addicted to the endorphins. However, I think this means that I must be getting wiser as I age. Thank gawwwd!
